It did well.
This grimoire includes operations of working with ancient gnostic tradition. Taken from the magickal greek papyri and reworked into an operational system, the book of Abrasax is a gem to behold to all those whom wish to walk this path. I highly recommend to all practicing magicians. Its a good read, however put into practice and it will give you a very great appreciation for the authors gnosis.
This really clarifies a lot of the symbols found in other works like the Lessor Key. An excellent addition to your library.
This is a must have book for any witch! I love it and it is packed full of information.
Does not approach Abrasax from the perspective of the Hypostatsis of the Archons as some modern Gnostic groups do, does not approach Abrasax as the Angel of Elelet as several Ancient Gnostic Scriptures did. At least he did not treat Abrasax as the Jungian perspective would indicate, although this agrees somewhat with the presentation in the Hypostasis of the Archons. The most useful aspect of this book is the inclusion of several rites adapted from the Bruce Codex.
This is not a book for beginners. It is ideal for someone who has studied or has an interest in the Greek Magical Papyri. I would recommend getting a copy of the GMP as a reference book. The practices in Abrasax are simple but powerful. Cecchetelli's writing is elevated but clear. He gives just enough information and explanation without bogging down the text. I would suggest that the reader study a little Neoplatonic and Gnostic cosmology in order to understand these practices better. This book isn't going to tell you who Abrasax is... there are gaps you're going to have to fill in on your own. This is a great book for the experienced magician who wants to tap into a more ancient stream than Thelema, Golden Dawn or Wicca.
As a magician fond of the PGM, I can say that this book is an excellent look into one occultist's method of working that system in a clear and concise way. All the rituals from the book that I have done, all save for the curses within, work as detailed. This is an excellent book for any magician who is learning the PGM current in magic.
