Like most collections, this one is a little uneven, and it unfortunately starts out with the weakest (in my opinion) offerings, but by the time he's gotten to his bizarre take on the Cinderella legend, the author is in his stride, and things just get better and better. The Price is a great character study, Death Notice is wonderfully morbidly funny, and The Box is Steven Torres at his ironic best. And you can't go wrong with The Coupon of Death or Taking Van der Flieder's Star either. Only the two sci-fi stories (really, more futuristic) in the beginning left me cold - Noir and dark doings are more this author's style. But another reader may feel differently.Still, for ninety nine cents, you get a lot of first rate reading material here. I recommend it highly. Truth is, I haven't read any of this author's books that I couldn't recommend.
